Biobased Compounds

Biobased compounds include natural fillers like coffee, wood, and hemp.

Compounds reinforced or filled with natural fillers

The Compound Company offers EcoForte NF compounds in granular form that are reinforced or filled with natural fibres. We have experience with a wide variety of natural-based fillers; wood, coffee, hemp, rice, bamboo are just a few examples of the natural fibres we have processed. All of our natural fibres are indeed natural and 100% renewable.
We prefer to use fibre sources that are a byproduct from an existing process or specifically grown for producing renewable materials to minimize carbon footprint and maximize environmental benefits. Natural fibres store CO₂ and have their own unique characteristics that can influence the properties of the final compound.

Different choices of natural fibres and fillers

We can produce compounds using a wide range of natural fibres and fillers. Coffee and hemp are just two examples of biobased materials that we use to create compounds. We have experience working with various other biobased materials like bamboo, flax, and rice. Our portfolio is constantly growing with new biobased alternatives. Our team of experts is eager to develop and manufacture custom solutions using biobased materials. We collaborate closely with partners in the polymer industry to explore sustainable alternatives to fossil-based plastics. The unique qualities of these natural products require special attention during development and production to ensure they have the desired properties for their intended use.

Applications of biobased compounds

We produce materials tailored for plastic converting techniques such as injection moulding, extrusion, or 3D printing. We also produce compounds that show the filler in the final application or we can tailor it towards a specific colour, all custom-made according to our customers expectations.

Biodegradable biopolymers

The EcoForte range offers solutions with biobased fillers, but we also have experience in processing and manufacturing a wide variety of bioplastics. Bioplastics can be derived from renewable raw materials, but they can also be plastics made from petrochemicals with biodegradable additives that enhance biodegradation. We have experience with various bioplastics such as PLA, PBAT, and PHB.
These biodegradable products are an alternative to conventional plastics and help prevent microplastics from ending up in the environment. Biodegradable plastics are broken down by microorganisms into water, carbon dioxide (or methane), and biomass under specific conditions.
Our biodegradable compounds can be used in a variety of ways, including being foamed into packing materials, extruded, and injection molded with modifi ed conventional machines. This makes it an ideal solution for many single or  short-term use applications, such as organic waste collection, the agricultural and horticultural sectors (for example, as mulch fi lms or plant pots), food packaging, and disposable tableware.
