Masterbatches

A masterbatch is a concentrated blend of additives that are combined and extruded within a carrier material, typically a resin. This formulation is used to introduce the additives into a final plastic product, enhancing its properties as needed.

Adjust polymers by using additives

The Compound Company has the ability to adjust polymers by using additives, allowing us to produce customized blends and modified polymers to enhance processability, appearance, or material properties. These masterbatches are typically added in small quantities during the plastic conversion process and are crucial for achieving the desired properties.

Additives in functional masterbatches

Common additives in masterbatch formulations include:

  • UV stabilizer to protect polymers from degradation caused by ultraviolet (UV) radiation
  • Antiblock agent to prevent plastic films from sticking together
  • Blowing agent to create a foaming effect within the polymer
  • Anti-static agent to reduce or eliminate static electricity buildup
  • Slip agent to lower friction between film layers and other surfaces
  • Impact modifier to enhance the toughness and durability of the polymer
  • Chain extender to increase molecular weight and viscosity of the polymer
