Foam Moulding

Foam moulding is a manufacturing process used to create lightweight, durable parts with a cellular structure, often used for insulation, packaging, or cushioning. In this process, a foaming material, typically a polymer mixed with a blowing agent, is introduced into a mould cavity. As the mixture is heated, the blowing agent produces gas, causing the material to expand and fill the mould. The expanding foam takes the shape of the mould, creating a part with a uniform structure and precise dimensions. Once the material is fully expanded and cured, the mould is opened, and the finished foam part is removed.

Additives used for foam moulding

Additives are used in foam moulding to help optimize the process and meet the functional needs of the product being made. The Compound Company offers multiple EcoForte products, such as PLA and PET chain extenders for the foam moulding process.

Applications of foam moulding

Applications of the foam moulding process are packaging, automotive components, and insulation materials.
