Thermoforming

Thermoforming is a manufacturing process that is often used to produce rigid or semi-rigid packaging components. In this process, it begins with the creation of a sheet through cast film extrusion. Then the sheet is heated and stretched over or into a mould and cooled to form its shape. Cutting equipment is used to separate the formed sheet into individual products. To optimize this process to specific applications, various additives and specialty materials – such as chain extenders and sheet extrusion compounds can be incorporated.

Additives used for thermoforming

The Compound Company offers multiple EcoForte products for thermoforming process, such as PLA based chain extenders and natural fibre sheet extrusion compounds.

Applications of thermoforming

Thermoforming has a wide range of applications across many industries, especially in packaging, automotive components, consumer products and building and construction.
